Weston Park Hospital

The hospital was suffering water ingress, into the building adjacent and below the raised footpath area.
Exploratory works were carried out to ascertain the cause of ingress. The cause was found to be a defective joint made when the adjacent car park was previously resurfaced.
The concrete curbs were removed, and the asphalt below was cut through with a diamond bladed saw. The asphalt paving between the cut and the building was then broken out.
Area stripped out and prepared ready for reinstatement of asphalt paving. Note the cut into the slab where the previous defective joint was. This area will have three coats of mastic asphalt roofing applied, jointed to existing asphalt and an upstand skirting will be formed to building.
Due to this being a very busy hospital access was a problem, and the majority of the work was carried out at weekends.
We erected the hoarding to protect the public.

After the roofing asphalt had been installed, the concrete curbs were reinstated and paving grade asphalt was laid flush with the top of the curb.
Newly laid paving is being crimped before it cools completely.

An asphalt fillet was formed on the outside of the concrete curb to provide additional security against disturbance by vehicular traffic.
Anyone who knows Weston Park Hospital, knows that this picture had to be taken on a sunday.
Problem solved.
